Kathmandu Day Tour Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Full Day Tour around the Vicinity of Kathmandu:
We will begin our day with a visit to Kathmandu Durbar Square. It is located in the heart of old Kathmandu city at Basantapur. It never fails to impress first-time visitors with its collaborative palaces, courtyards, and temples built during the Malla period. The Durbar Square includes the Hanuman Dhoka Royal Palace, Kumari Ghar- the living goddess and the splendid Teleju temple towering more than 40 meters. The capital takes its name from the huge and the most important pagoda of Kasthamandap. Since, the time of the Malla kings, the Durbar Square has been the city’s social, religious and political main point.
After the short tour around the Durbar Square area, we will take a bus towards the Swoyambhunath. Swoyambhunath, located on a mound 3 km west of Kathmandu is one of the holiest Buddhist chaityas in Nepal. It is said to have changed unexpectedly when the valley was created out of a primitive lake more than 2,000 years ago. The Stupa is the oldest of its kind in Nepal which has numerous stupas and monasteries on its principles.
In the afternoon we will visit Pashupatinath Temple, located in the bank of the holy Bagmati river in the eastern part of Kathmandu valley. The two-tiered pagoda consists of beautiful golden roofs and stunning silver doors houses the sacred linga or phallic icon of Lord Shiva. History indicates the temple existed before 400 A.D. There are more than hundreds of Shiva lingam within the compound which is beautifully festooned. Near the Pashupatinath Temple on the banks of the Bagmati River lies Guhesshwori. Nearby is the temple of Guheshwori dedicated to Shiva's consort, Sati Devi.
Last place we will visit Bouddanath Stupa, which is located about 11 km from the Centre and northeast borders of Kathmandu. It is one of the largest stupas in the world. Bouddha stupa is a UNESCO world heritage site. There, you will see complicatedly painted mandala ceilings and a large golden Buddha statue with a small stupa. At the end of the day, a representative from Himalayan Scenery Treks will drop you off in your Hotel.
