The 12 Days Everest Base Camp Trekking begins with the scenic flight from Kathmandu to the marvelous hill town of Lukla after the completion of necessary documentation in the office of Himalayan Scenery and Expedition. With the gentle trekking introduction on the second day after the trek to Phakding, the real trekking in the Everest region begins. We traverse through the rich Sherpa hub of Namche Bazaar, culturally rich settlements of Tengboche, the highest round the year settlement of Dingboche as well as the higher altitude stoppages of Lobuche, Gorakshep and Everest Base Camp and trek back to the initial trekking point of Lukla. The natural, scenic and biological as well as cultural diversity and up close view of humongous Himalayas gives us the euphoric feeling.
12 Days Everest Base Camp Trekking demands reasonable fitness and ability to walk through steep gradients besides an average walk of 5-6 hours per day besides mental endurance. Day 01Pre-trip meeting /Trip preparation and Documentation in our officeThe trekking expedition to the lap of the world’s tallest mountain begins from the following day after we leave for the hill town of Lukla. This day shall be dedicated to the trip preparation and clarifying you about the requirements of the trip, providing the necessary information and interacting with the trekking guides besides the completion of necessary documentation of the trek. After being transferred to the office of our company you shall be briefed about the trek and with the necessary documents from your part, we shall complete the necessary formalities from the concerned authorities such as the trip permit and other permissions. Enquire and clarify all your doubts regarding the trek and get prepared for the exciting trek beginning from the following day. Overnight at your Hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 02Kathmandu to Lukla (2886m) and trek to Phakding (2640m), 3/4 hoursThe adventure in the land of Himalayas begins today. We shall leave early before the day breaks for the beautiful Lukla city to the Tenzing-Hillary Airport. This short and scenic flight of about 40 minutes shall provide you with the view of terrains, the lush hills and green valleys, the gorgeous and humongous mountains and a flight through to the colorful Lukla with colorful prayer flags. After reaching to this beautiful hill we meet with the remaining trekking team. Time permitting we shall explore the surrounding areas while our Sherpa crew sorts and loads our trekking equipment. Further ahead we shall have a gentle introduction to the trekking in this region with short trek to quaint Phakding village. We begin with the trek along the stone steps, past the prayer flags and prayer rocks, beautiful settlements of Chheplung, Nurning and Ghat, torrential Dudh Koshi River flowing down the trail and the ever smiling Sherpa people along the trek route. A short trek of around 3-4 hours takes us to the Phakding village, also known as the ‘lodge-city’. Overnight in Phakding.
Day 03 Phakding to Namche Bazzar (3440m) 6 hoursWe shall begin the trek with breakfast in the small settlement of Phakding and start our beautiful section of this trek for Namche Bazaar. We trek along the winding trail through the pine and rhododendron forests, suspension bridges, culturally rich Sherpa villages and the marvelous views of the mountains all along the trail. After an hour of trek we reach to Toktok and further ahead the trail leads us to Bengkar from where the sight of Mt. Thamserku (6618m) is visible to your right. Continuing along the mighty Dudh Koshi River, we reach to the settlement of Monjo, the entrance to the protected area of Sagarmatha National Park. After having our permits checked we continue our trek to Jorsale and stop for lunch. In the next phase of the trek we cross the high Hillary Bridge over the confluence of Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi River at Larja Dobhan where we also have the view of marvelous Mount Everest besides others. The later section of the trek has increasing and at times a steep ascent to the Sherpa hub of Namche Bazaar. With the views of Everest (8848m) and Lhotse (8516m) on the way we reach to the destination for today, Namche Bazaar after couple of hours’ trek. Surrounded by mountain ranges from three sides, this settlement offers the blend of ancient Sherpa culture and modern amenities. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.
Day 04Acclimatization at Namche BazzarWe take rest at Namche Bazaar (3440m) for acclimatization. A necessary exercise at the high altitudes, acclimatization makes the body adapt to the changing altitudes and Namche Bazaar is considered as an ideal place for acclimatization to the high altitude trek before heading upwards. We have a lot to explore in and around Namche. The Sherpa cultural museum in the main market provides information about mountaineering, culture and traditions, history of mountaineering in the region and flora and fauna in the region. Other exploration activities include the hike to the beautiful and small Sherpa village of Khumjung with Hillary hospital and school as well as the ancient monastery with ornate wall hangings and Yeti skull. We enjoy the splendid view of Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Nuptse, Lhotse, Tawche, Kwangde and so on from here. Other day hikes to Khunde village and a bit longer hike to the Thame is also in the list of the trekkers in this region. After exploring the diverse landscape we trek back to Namche. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.
Day 05Namche Bazaar to Tyangboche (3867m) 6 hoursFrom this section onwards we shall get into the higher alpine altitude and surrounded by glaciers, peaks, rough terrain and colder climate. This section of trek begins with the short uphill walk towards the ridge and to Kyanjuma which further descends to the mighty Dudh Koshi River. Accompanied by the marvelous view of mountains including the Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and others we reach the junction of Sansa and downhill trek to Phunke Tenga along stone steps. After this we have an uphill trek to Tyangboche, the village famous for ancient Tengboche Monastery, the lush hills and surrounding dotted with the rhododendron plants. Besides the amazing sunrise and sunset over the Everest and Ama Dablam from Tyangboche, we shall be accompanied by the panoramic view of mountains such as Lhotse, Nuptse, Tawoche and others besides Everest and Ama Dablam. Overnight in Tyangboche.
Day 06 Tyangboche to Dingboche (4260m) 6 hoursThe destination for today is Dingboche (4260m). The trek begins with a short descent to the settlement of Deboche and further onto the riverside through the dense forests inhabited by the wild animals including the Musk, Deer, Blue sheep, Monal and others. Along the pouring river accompanying the trail, we gradually climb to the highest round the year settlement in this trekking trail, the settlement of Pangboche. Leaving behind several chorterns, prayer flags and prayer wheels as well as the ancient monastery in Pangboche we pass through several suspension bridges, beautiful settlements of Soamre, Samso Ogma and others, ups and downs of the trail including the flat trail in between we reach to Dingboche. Trekkers may either trek through Pheriche or part way little ahead of Samso to trek along the Imja River to reach the destination for today, Dingboce. Overnight in Dingboche.
Day 07Dingboche to Lobuche (4930 m) 5.30 hoursToday we shall head towards Lobuche from Dingboche which is situated at a distance of five and half hours trek. Beginning with the climb to the rim for the view of Taboche and Chholatse peak we trek ahead in the secondary trail through the yak pastures, over the wooden bridge over a roaring stream and gradual ascent over to Dughla. Before that we pass through Dusa after which the valley starts narrowing down. Further ahead on the trail is steep elevation and trek onto the lateral moraine debris of Khumbu glacier. Passing through the memorials built in memory of the climbers who lost their life during Everest expedition, we pass through Thokla Pass and the rough terrain along the Khumbu glacier to reach Lobuche with gentle climb in the later section of the trek. Intermittently we have the view of great peaks including Khumbutse, Lingten, Pumori and Mahalangur Peak, the majestic Khumbu glacier and beautiful and glittering Chola Lake. Overnight in Lobuche.
Day 08 Lobuche to Gorakshep (5140m) Everest Base Camp (5364m) & night at Gorakshep (5140m) 7 hoursHaving breakfast at Lobuche, we trek for Everest Base Camp today via Gorakshep (5140m). The trek begins along the moraines of Khumbu glacier and past the Italian Research Centre. Having passed the pyramid and the Lobuche glacier on the left of the trail, we can see the crest of the north elevation of the Everest along with the panoramic view of the mountains such as Pumori, Mahalangur, Khumbutse, Nuptse and others besides the snowy vista of mountains after a short ascent to a small hill. Further ahead in the trail we pass the Changri Nup glacier and reach to the milestone of Gorakshep. We then traverse ahead in the trail along the company of Khumbu Glacier on the New Moraine Route to reach to the Everest Base Camp. The Base Camp is decorated by the prayer flags, colorful tents of climbers aspiring ascent to the world’s tallest peak, setting a contrast against the grey and white landscape. After capturing moments and getting immersed for some moments in one of the most exquisite landscapes of the region, we trek back to the Gorakshep for overnight stay. Overnight in Gorakshep.
Day 09Gorakshep to Kala Patthar (5545m) and then to Pheriche (4243m) 8 hoursToday is one of the most picturesque trekking sections besides the section traversed the day before. We trek from Gorakshep to Kala Patthar (5545m) and trek to Pheriche (4243m) in this section of the trek. The trek begins before the daybreak as we aspire to have the breathtaking sight of sunrise over the humongous mountains including the Everest, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Lingtren, Mt. Khumbutse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Thamserku and many more from Kala Patthar. With some stoppages to catch our breath and take some snaps of the landscape. A seemingly small hill dwarfed by the towering mountain, Kala Patthar is an iconic viewpoint. After living some of the best moments in the vicinity of Himalayas we trek back to the settlement of Pheriche. Trekkers may visit the Himalayan Rescue Association Aid Post available at Pheriche where foreign volunteer doctors are available to provide medical treatment. Overnight in Pheriche.
Day 10Pheriche to Namche Bazaar (3440m) 7.30 hoursA fairly long downhill trek to the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar starts with an easy downhill trail to the Pangboche village. Further along the trail we descent to the riverside of the mighty Imja River and continue our trek up the culturally rich settlement of Tyangboche. A steep descent from Tyangboche takes trekkers to the Dudh Koshi River crossing which we reach to the settlement of Phunke Tenga, alongside the Imja River which is the trek’s lowest point north of the Lukla. Passing through the dense forest inhabited by some of the rare wild lives, we traverse along the stone steps to Sansa (the place where the trail gets divided to Gokyo valley) and further on a relatively relaxing trek to the destination for today, Namche Bazaar. Intermittently we may also hike to the monastery at Khumjung besides the Hillary Hospital in Khunde. Finally we are in Namche Bazaar. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.
Day 11 Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2886 m) 7 hoursThis section of the trail leads to the comfortable altitudes as we gradually trek down to the ending point of this trek, Lukla. With legs struggling in the remote terrain, we slowly and steadily head downwards. Passing through several suspension bridges festooned with prayer flags, quaint villages of Jorsale (the exit of National Park) and Monjo besides other villages, prayer wheels and Mani Stones besides the train of trekkers, locals and porters along the trail we reach to the final destination of physical trekking activity in this trek. On arrival to Lukla we bid adieu to the porters who were the backbone of this expedition. After the beautiful and strenuous trek we take rest at this beautiful hill town in Khumbu region. Overnight in Lukla.
Day 12Lukla to Kathmandu & Evening Farewell DinnerWe board our early flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. Upon arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport, we would be received by our representatives and transfer to hotel. In the afternoon, go for shopping. In the evening we will gathering in our office and we go for have a farewell dinner in a traditional Nepalese restaurant with cultural performances.
