Rara Lake Trekking - Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 1: Welcome to Kathmandu:

    As per your flight plan, we will be at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu to stretch out a warm welcome to you in our wonderful nation for the lovely outing. As you fly towards the International Terminal of Tribhuvan International Airport on a clear sunny day, you can see the breathtaking views of snow-capped mountain peaks spread in distance. Once you land, a representative from Himalayan Scenery Treks, will escort you to your hotel. The day is a complete leisure. You can either choose rest at your hotel room and remove jet lag or take a short walk around in the ancient valley of Kathmandu.

  • Day 2: Preparation and Sightseeing Tour of Kathmandu:

    On the second day of your arrival, we will be taking you for site seeing tour to some of Nepal’s most historic site after morning breakfast. Talking about the cultural richness, Kathmandu is the cultural heart of Nepal. This city has an interesting combination of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influence in the valley. We will be taking you to historical and cultural sightseeing tour around Kathmandu valley. We will take a tour around Kathmandu Durbar Square, Monkey Temple- Swoyambhunath Stupa – oldest monument in Kathmandu valley, Pashupatinath Temple – biggest Hindu Shrine and Boudhanath- a massive Buddhist Shrine. All these historical monuments are listed in the UNESCO world Heritage site. You will be accompanied by the professional licensed guide during your city tour around beautiful city of Temples.

  • Day 3: Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj:

    After a morning breakfast in hotel, we will go to the domestic terminal to take an hour flight to Nepalgunj, located in Western Nepal. After we take off from the Tribhuvan International Airport, we can enjoy the aerial view of the ancient Kathmandu valley accompanied by various never-ending Himalayan-chains. Nepalgunj is the wonderful town located in Western Nepal, near Nepal-India Border. This town is the gateway to Simkot, Humla. The cultural richness of this interesting Terai town is beyond comparable. The town itself is the showcase of the diverse culture of Nepal. Once we reach this wonderful Terai Town, we will explore this amazing town.

  • Day 4: Fly from Nepalgunj to Jumla:

    After we have our breakfast in the local hotel, we will once again take a flight to the hilly landscape of Jumla. Jumla is one of the least accessible districts of Nepal, lying at an altitude of 2,540 meter. In this wonderful remote valley, situated in the Foothills of the Sisne Himalayas, Paddy is cultivated making this place the highest place on earth to grow paddy. This town is also the capital of Karnali zone and a gateway for trekkers who want to explore the remote Karnali region of Nepal.

  • Day 5: Trek from Jumla to Chere Chaur:

    From this day, we will start our trekking journey to the pristine Rara lake. Once we have had breakfast in the morning, we will leave the Jumla valley and walk towards Chere Chaur. As this is the first day of our take, we will ascend slowly to Chere Chaur- a nice farm village on route to Rara Lake. Before we reach our destination for the day, we will go through Khalanga Bazzaar- a small market place of nearby village. And with a short climb walking past a nice farm village and couple of other villages, we will reach Chere Chaur.

  • Day 6: Chere Chaur to Chalachaur:

    Today we start our trek after having a breakfast. Today our trail follows the western trails and slowly ascend upward into rhododendron, birch and pine tree lined serene forest to the place called Jaljala pass (3580 meter). Jaljala Pass offers a fabulous view of Kanjiroba Himal toward North East. We need to cross this pass. Once we cross the pass we will continue our hike on a relatively straight trail through tranquil wilderness and then on downhill path for couple of hours through cool forest will take us to Jaljala Chaur. It is the summer grazing pastures area. We will again trail uphill to enter the Rara lake Circuit before we reach Chalachaur.

  • Day 7: Chalachaur to Sinja Valley:

    Our destination for today is the Sinja Valley. Sinja Valley is a beautiful remote village with a very old ruin temple and monuments, ancient sculptured stones which is covered in moss and weeds. From Chalachaur we will climb up hill through a forest with dense pine forest and walking past through terraced farm field, eventually we reach Sinja Valley. This valley holds an important place in the history of Nepal. This valley was the capital city of the Khasa Kingdom from the 12th to the 14th century. Once we reach this historic, we will take a walk around to explore the place.

  • Day 8: Trek from Sinja to Ghorosingha:

    After having a early breakfast, we leave Sinja and follow the river upstream to reach a small village of Ganja. Our walk progresses on an uphill trail accompanied by Hima River. As we ascend upward the trail gradually becomes steeper for a while followed by relatively easier trail until Laha Village. From Laha village it is a steep uphill climb following the stream of Ghatte Khola towards North-East coming to a small valley Ghorosingha. Once we reach here we will take an afternoon walk around and just relax enjoying the beautiful scenery.

  • Day 9: Trek from Ghorosingha to Rara Lake:

    The hike today will lead us to our final destination, Rara Lake- Nepal’s Largest Lake. We will begin our hike in the early morning after having breakfast. The trail today is steep ascent alongside Chuchhemara Danda 4, 260 meters. On reaching the top ridge we can witness the breathtaking panoramic view of surrounding landscapes, magnificent view of Himalayas. From here we also get to admire the vast and tranquil Lake and the lush vegetation of the Rara National Park. After enjoying and capturing the marvelous views in the lenses of our camera, we walk toward our destination passing through Khatya Khola Camp and few villages including Murma. From here the ascent get little easier. We then walk upstream of the crystal-clear stream to Chapri village which houses the Rara National Park Head Quarter.

  • Day 10: Explore Rara Lake:

    Today is the day off or a rest day here at RARA. Once we have our breakfast, we head out to explore this beautiful Rara Lake, as this pristine lake has so much to offer. This place is an ideal place for relaxing and locale exploration. From the side of the lake you can see the glorious Himalayan ranges such as Chumchemara Peak, Ruma Kand and Malika Kand peak. While exploring the surrounding of Lake, you can also capture some pictures as a memory of this beautiful heaven on earth.

  • Day 11: Trek from Rara Lake to Pina:

    After having breakfast in the morning, we will leave the enjoyable and pleasant surrounding of Rara lake and head back. From here our trail is easy. Today we will have a moderate trek on a straight path leading us right to the ridge at the top at Jhyari. Further away from this small village lies Gamgadhi- headquater of the remote Mugu District of Nepal. From here onwards our trail descend on a steep trail following Bira Khola for a short time. After a hour of walking, we need to cross the suspension bridge of Dhauligar Khola before we come to Pina Village.

  • Day 12: Trek from Pina to Bumra:

    We leave the Pina in the morning after having breakfast. Then our walk continues downhill after crossing the Ghurchi Langna Passs at 3480m. This is the highest point of our trek. You can see chortens festooned with prayer flag in Fhurch Langna pass Our trekking trail passes through tranquil and enchanting forest with excellent views of landscapes and mountains towards north. Enjoying the amazing nature and passing few village rich in Gurung culture, we eventually reach Bumra. This small villa is also called Nauri Ghat.

  • Day 13: Trek from Bumra to Jumla:

    Today is the final day of our trekking. After spending an overnight in the village of Bumra, we will start our morning walk from this village. Leaving the Bumra village, our journey lead us to the overhanging rock at Kamra. The rock is an important source of herbal medicinal mineral known as Silaji. Crossing the two-suspension bridge above Hima River and a few hours downhill walk, we reach to a hot spring. After relaxing your body in the hot spring, we cross Danphe Lagna pass at 3691 meters. Once we reach Cherechaur, we will retrace the path that we took to go to Rara Lake. Eventually, we reach Jumla for overnight stay.

  • Day 14: Fly to Nepalgunj,and then fly to Kathmandu:

    We will board on the earliest flight available to Nepalgunj from Jumla. A short scenic flight takes us to the Nepalgunj. Once we land at Nepalgunj, we will board another flight to Kathmandu. From the Tribhuvan International airport, we will guide you up to your hotel. You will have a free time to explore the Kathmandu city or relax before a farewell party.

  • Day 15: Transfer to international airport for your final connecting flight home:

    On the las day of our trip, representative of Himalayan Scenery Treks will drive you to the airport according to you flight schedule back to home or onward destination.
