Pilgrimage tour to Maratika:

Maratika Cave (Haleshi) is a cave located in Nepal about 185 kilometers southwest of Mt. Everest. Maratika Monastery is also located in this area, the Khotang District. Maratika Cave is a place of pilgrimage and scared to Buddhists. The Maratika cave has been mentioned in Tibetan literature since the 12th century. Legends surround this cave and it is largely associated with long life. It is written that Guru Rinpoche achieved immortal life with Mandarava at Maratika Cave. Others say that Buddha Amitabha and dakinis wrote down the eighteen tantras of Long Life, concealed them in a box made of precious jewels, and hid them in Maratika Cave. It is said that there are many hidden treasures here, and many people stop at this cave for religious rituals along their pilgrimage. Many lamas retreat to the cave for religious practices and to have their life hindrances expelled. Many others are advised to retreat to the cave for its spiritual benefits.

Maratika Cave and Maratika Monastery (Maratika is also known as Haleshi or Halase, are located in It is a venerated site of pilgrimage associated with Mandarava, Padmasambhava and longevity.

Mandarava and Padmasambhava realised a number of terma that had been elementally encoded as terma in Maratika Cave by Dakini Sangwa Yeshe, terma that number among the longevity teachings of Buddha Amitabha and given at the behest of Bodhisattva Avalokiteswara. At Maratika Cave, Mandarava and Padmasambhava attained the Vidyadhara of longevity or long life.

Maratika or Haleishi Mahadeva- the famous natural cave in Khotang distrit, said to be te abode of Mahadeva ( Shiva ) while hiding away from the monster Bhasmasur. It is famous pilgrimage centre in east Nepal, and it is also nicknamed as the Pashupatinath of the east. Huge religious fairs are observed here on Shivaratri and Bala Chatudashi

  • From Kathmandu to Katari to bujele- Halese ( Maratika )
  • Helicopter flight from Kathmandu to Maratika. same day return also possible.
