Annapurna Circuit Trekking:

Annapurna Circuit trekking if done anticlockwise begins at khudi 7km/4.4miles from beshishar, a town approached from both Kathmandu (142km/89miles) and Pokhara (107km/67miles) there are buses to besisahar from both the cities, with local buses running onward to khudi on a rather bumpy road. The treks end at nayapul, 41km/25 miles from pokhara, a slightly shorter route, eliminating the viewpoint ghorepani, finishes at begkhola, from where there is a motorable road to beni and on to pokhara (73km/46 miles). This trek can also be done in the less popular clockwise direction, in which case ,of course the starting point becomes nayapul/begkhola and the end point khudi.

On the anticlockwise route, The Annapurna circut trekking follows the masryangdi river upstream, gaining altitude gradually as you travel north through lamjung district populated mainly by gurung, after ghermu (altitude 1160m/3805ft)the trail crosses over to the left bank and ascends throght sa narrow gorge that extends for 25 km/15.5 miles up to bagarchap (2160m/7085 ft) in lower manang district”(also called gyasumdo)the marsyangdi bends westward (left) here and so does the trail, gradually entering a drier, rugged terrain, after crossing chame (267m m/8760 ft)the headquarter of manang district, the land scope gets even more arid as you enter upper manang also called nyeshang. At humid(3280m/10,760ft) there is an airfield with flights to pokhara. At manang village (3540m/11610ft) which you eventually reach a day rest for acclimatization in the order, before the onward trek to the throungla pas (5416m/17,768ft) the highest point of the trail. From throng phadi (4430m/14,530ft)a bleak, chilly polecat the base of the pass, it is a rather steep climb to throungla and very long descent to muktinath (3800m/12,460ft) this is the most strenuous part of the Annapurna circut trekking trek and snow is not unusual here. You leave the the rain –shadow zone and the hills turn green again, the decently is mostly gradual as you follow the kali gandaki, passing village like tukuche ghasa (2010m/8495ft)and dana(1440m/4720ft)thetrail works its way through narrow george and past great waterfall.

Reaching tatopani (1190m/3900ft) you have the option of carrying on to begkhola and then to beni and pokhara by vehicle, or climbing to ghorepani. It is a stiff climb but ghorepani (2750m/9020ft) and the poon hill viewpoint above it commands excellent views of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna peaks. The descent from the hereto nayapul can be completed in the day.

Detail Itinerary

Day Activities
Day 01: Kathmandu to Besi Sahar. Drive out from Kathmandu to Besi Sahar early in the morning bus or car/ Jeep.
Day 02: Besi Sahar to Bahundanda (hill of the Brahmins 1310 m). Along the route the trail follows a stream and climbs to Denauti, then slippery rocks lead to the Marshyangdi Khola. During this route the villages Khudi. Ngadi and Lampa are interesting to see.
Day 03: Bahudanda to Chamje (2160 m). Beautiful water falls, some forests full of birds, villages occupied by Tibetan heritage. Tea houses and guests houses are available.
Day 04: Chamje to Bagarchhap (2160 m). It is a village of Tibetan architecture. A well mentioned Diki Gompa is a famous place to see.
Day 05: Bagarchhap to Chame (2630 m). A nice camping place and several years ago it was the district Headquarters of Manang. Police check post, school, health post, post office, bank, wireless station are there, with the facility of electricity. On the route the Annapurna (II 7937 m), (IV 7525 m), Ganesh Himal and Manasalu Himal (8156 m) are visible.
Day 06: Chame to Pisang (3190 m). A Khampa settlement is known as Bratang now a day’s abandoned. One can find over there a stone memory to a Japanese climber who died in an avalanche. Crossing the Thorong La pass, Pisang peak, Annapurna II and other natural beauties blow one's mind.
Day 07: Pisang to Manang (3335 m). During the trek we cross the place, known as Nyseyang (wheat barley). They also grow potatoes and beans. Horses are the means of transportation. Life standard is better at Manang. There is a chance to buy medicines and warm clothes.
Day 08: Manang. A day for rest, acclimatization and explore Manang (Side trip). There is a good opportunity to climb the north ridge of the village and have a view of the Annapurna II, IV, Glacier Dome and other excellent scenery.
Day 09: Manang to Letdear. Trail crosses a stream, climbs to Tingi and continues to Marsyangdi valley. Yak Kharka and Letdear is next to last shelter before the pass.
Day 10: Letdear to Thorang Phedi. A wooden bridge at (3320 m) should be crossed to reach Thorang Phedi (4420 m). Sometime snow can block the pass. In such a situation this place is really crowded. Usually people schedule is 3:00 am to departure, which is not necessary. The ideal departure could be made between 4:00 and 5:00 am.
Day 11: Thorang Phedi to Muktinath (3800 m). During the season of December to January there are very few chances to cross Thorang La pass. If porters are not well equipped, they may suffer badly due to the cold and the storm.
Day 12: Muktinath to Jomsom (2713 m). Trail descends to Jomsom, this is a nice place from where trek could be shortened by flight back to Pokhara and Kathmandu.
Day 13: Jomsom to Kalopani (2580 m). Trek becomes easier as trail follows downwards. But no doubt, natural beauties are unforgettable. You may enjoy along the route the view of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Annapurna I and so on.
Day 14: Kalopani to Tatopani (1680 m). Tatopani means hot water in Nepali. Thus this village gains the name as Tatopani from the hot spring.
Day 15: Tatopani. This is a spot with more facilities and there are hotels and guesthouses which offers good accommodation and we can enjoy (swim) in natural hot spring.
